5 ha. expansion of the Laurenshaven Terminal of European Bulk Services (EBS) in the Port of Rotterdam.
European Bulk Services (EBS) operates in the Botlek area in Rotterdam a dry bulk terminal for intermediate storage of mineral bulk, agribulk and biomass products. The terminal has a total annual throughput of approx. 8 million tons, and a total land area of 30ha. In 2010 EBS acquired a lease contract with the Port of Rotterdam for an additional 5ha plot of land. This area, referred to as West 4, was to be developed into a new multi-purpose stacking area, suitable for maneuvering with heavy equipment such as large wheel loaders.
The land was handed over to EBS in a very swampy condition. In addition, the land consisted partly of severely polluted soil. After an extensive mandatory soil decontamination process, the area was developed into an open storage facility with 300.000 tons capacity, consisting of heavy duty pavement using state-of-the-art-soil concrete technique, a bi-directional belt conveyor with fully automated stacker, data network, fire fighting facilities, sewerage etc.
